What You'll Study

Join our Community Services course, specifically designed for international students. At Active Study, we equip you with the skills and knowledge to make a positive impact in public service and community welfare - a sector that is growing rapidly as Australia invests in social support systems.

Community services courses develop your skills in case management, individual advocacy, crisis intervention, legal and ethical frameworks, and delivering services to diverse community groups including youth, homeless, refugees, and people with disabilities.

Supervised fieldwork placements in community organisations are an integral part of the program, giving you direct experience with real clients and service systems. You will also study mental health awareness, trauma-informed practice, and community development.

Programs lead to a Certificate IV or Diploma of Community Services - nationally recognised qualifications that meet the requirements of service providers across Australia.

Cost and duration of Community Services courses in Australia

Fees & Timeline

Cost, Duration & Intake Dates

Community services qualifications are offered at the Certificate IV and Diploma levels. A Certificate IV typically takes around 12 months full-time, while a Diploma of Community Services (AQF Level 5) generally runs for about 1 to 2 years, partly because supervised fieldwork placement hours are built into the program. As a guide only, vocational community services courses commonly sit in the range of roughly AUD 8,000 to AUD 18,000 in total, with diploma-level study usually costing more than the certificate.

Most providers run several intakes a year - often around February, April or May, July and October - so you can choose a start date that fits both your visa and the timing of your fieldwork placements. Because placement scheduling can affect when you finish, your actual completion date may move a little.

All of these figures are indicative and subject to change. Active Study reviews providers across our network, confirms the exact current tuition, intake calendar and placement requirements, and helps you enrol in the qualification that aligns with your career direction.

Permanent residency pathway after a Community Services course in Australia

Study to PR

Your PR Pathway After This Course

The course entry notes that community services and case management can be eligible occupations for skilled migration, though eligibility often depends on the specific occupation and the state involved. After finishing your qualification, eligible graduates may be able to apply for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) to gain Australian work experience before pursuing a skills assessment and a skilled visa.

Where the relevant occupation is supported through state or territory channels, the pathway is usually framed around state-nominated visas such as the subclass 190 (state nominated) or subclass 491 (regional). Your suitability will depend on the current occupation lists, your points, a successful skills assessment and the requirements in force at the time, so any outcome is subject to change rather than guaranteed.

Active Study's MARA-registered migration agents will review your specific qualification and circumstances and advise on the most realistic route to permanent residency. We will be clear about what is achievable and never promise a guaranteed PR result.
