The Official Processing Time Estimates
The Department of Home Affairs publishes global processing time data for the Subclass 500 student visa. As a general guide, 75% of applications are processed within 29 days, and 90% within 46 days. However, these are averages across all nationalities and application types. Your actual processing time may differ.
Some nationalities historically experience faster processing - often within two to three weeks - while applicants from certain countries or with more complex circumstances may wait significantly longer. The Department does not publish country-specific estimates.

Completeness of Your Application
The single most important factor in processing speed is submitting a complete and accurate application at the outset. Missing documents, inconsistent information, or an inadequate Genuine Student statement all trigger requests for further information - which pause your application clock.
Health Examinations
Depending on your nationality and intended length of stay, you may be required to undergo a medical examination before your visa can be granted. The Department will notify you through ImmiAccount if this is required. Completing health examinations promptly - ideally through a panel physician in your home country while your application is being assessed - avoids adding weeks to your processing time.
